    The Comfort Cushion

    Juliette Cameron with Mom

In 2010 my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Only those who have had a loved one diagnosed or been diagnosed themselves can understand the feelings of uncertainty, helplessness and fear of the unknown that threaten to overwhelm in the early pre treatment stages. It was one of the great priveledges of my life to be able to travel back to Australia for 3 months and support my Mom through her surgery and rehabilitation. We cried, we laughed, we were angry and we struggled through the process. But with our Faith we both came out the other side stronger, deeper, closer, better.

Mom was given a “Gift” just before the surgery of a small pillow. This pillow along with its prayers for recovery from a person we will never know, was heart warming. From that moment I felt compelled to find out if such a thing was available in the USA and if not then to make it available, at no cost, to women who need them.

The Comfort Cushion facilitates rest and sleep by cushioning and supporting the wound site. It can be worn under a jacket to protect the area where often lymph nodes are removed, or taken to bed to be positioned for comfort during sleep.

The cloth bag can be carried over the arm to hold the drainage bags many patients are left with after surgery. It is my hope that I can provide as many of these gifts as I can to lift peoples spirits and to help them through the testing times that are ahead of them.

I have begun making these gifts in my home and enlisting the help of others and organizations to be a part of this non profit charity. All of my leftover and offcut fabric from the production of my loungewear collection plus a portion of every loungewear set sold, goes to making cushions.

It takes 1.75 yards of fabric to make a comfort cushion gift.
